The National Football League (NFL) regular season kicks off on Thursday, September 9th in a rematch of the 2009 NFC Championship game between the New Orleans Saints and the Minnesota Vikings (a game which has changed the overtime rules of the NFL after a field goal won the game in overtime for the New Orleans Saints, who would go on to win the Superbowl). Sirius XM (NASDAQ:SIRI) is of course covering this game — and every other game of the season — live on satellite radio. Fantasy sports have become a huge tradition for millions upon millions of armchair quarterbacks, and none more so than fantasy football. With regular season less than 2 weeks away, most fantasy football leagues are in the midst of their own drafts. Because of its popularity, Sirius XM has even devoted a channel for the fantasy lover called Fantasy Sports Radio airing on Sirius channel 211 and XM channel 147. This time it is Sirius subscribers who will need a “Best of XM” package in order receive this unique content.
Pro Bowl running back Maurice Jones-Drew of the Jacksonville Jaguars hosts his own show called “Runnin’ with MJD” where he talks about the NFL from both an insiders perspective as well as from a fantasy football standpoint every Friday at 7:00PM ET. If you know fantasy football, then you know about Rotowire. Chris Liss and Jeff Erickson from Rotowire host their own show on Fantasy Sports Radio every weekday from 11:00AM to 2:00PM ET with their top suggestions for fantasy moves of the week. In commemoration of the channel, The Fantasy Sports Radio crew held a fantasy football draft of their own two weeks ago at the Hard Rock Cafe at Time Square in New York City. Gary Dell’ Abate and the Howard Stern crew did a live broadcast of the Howard Stern Wrap Up show and then went straight into the live coverage of the draft. Team owners were Gary Dell’ Abate (also known as Baba Booey), Jeremy Roenick, Jay Thomas, Chris “Mad Dog” Russo, John Hansen, Kyle Elfrink, The Morning Mashup crew, Maurice Jones-Drew, Scott Ferrall, Scott Engel, Steve Phillips, and Chris Liss.
