Sirius XM's (NASDAQ:SIRI) Bubba The Love Sponge

By Demian Russian

Sirius XM Radio (NASDAQ:SIRI) talent Bubba the Love Sponge (born Todd Alan Clem) just announced via his Twitter feed that he is “done” with the Satellite Radio service provider and will be taking his show to internet radio provider radioio, which is owned by the publicly traded company ioWorld Media, Inc. (OTCPK: IWDM), a company which Bubba’s agent has a substantial stake in. Along with this announcement, Bubba is also actively encouraging his listeners to cancel their Sirius XM Satellite Radio subscriptions.

Ok, it’s official I’m done. I really am relying on u all 2 come 2 radioio dot com. I’m scared, but also somewhat relieved. I’m my own boss now!! As of midnight tonight my name and all content will be removed from Sirius XM :( . So I’ve never said this, but I am now cancel cancel cancel. They don’t think we have a following, that’s why they have done this. Show them!!

– Bubba The Love Sponge (via Twitter)

In contrast to Bubba’s statements earlier in the year that he would be following Howard Stern wherever he went, Bubba is now asking Howard Stern listeners to cancel their Sirius XM Satellite Radio subscriptions. Bubba’s show aired on Howard Stern’s branded Howard 101 channel for four years. Except for an uncensored show which aired once a week, Bubba’s show had not been uncensored or exclusive to Sirius XM since the last two-year contract extension was announced in late 2008. From then on, with the exception of his once weekly uncensored show, Sirius XM aired replays of his censored/watered down terrestrial radio show, which currently airs in six markets.

Bubba the Love Sponge also announced via his Twitter feed that he will be holding a press conference on Wednesday, January 5th, 2011 to announce where The Bubba the Love Sponge Show will be available outside of his terrestrial radio show’s six markets.

UPDATE: Bubba the Love Sponge will be the special guest on this Wednesday’s Playground Radio program. This exclusive interview can be heard live via the following link:

Bye Bubba! BTW, you look like you have been eating a few sponges. Man you put on some weight and it does not look like muscle.

  2. egiscodr

Scared?? LOL. Of what? His show is on terrestrial and replayed on Sirius XM for the most part. Guy is so full of himself. On his Twitter page, he talked abotu the money they are giving Martha, Oprah, and Howard. WTF. He is not even remotely in the same ballpark.

  3. sirifan

So he asks Howards fans to cancel also? Is that supposed to be some kind of favor to Howard or a stab in the back? Nice guy.

  4. Mike

Sirius management is very much on top of the demographics of the BLUBBER THE LOAF SMUGE those demographics are a small portion of the HOWARD STERN fans cannot cancel and won’t cancel because their primary reason of subscribing just signed another 5 year deal exclusively with SirisXm!

MEL JUST TWITERED ON BUBBA’s page and said CHECKMATE!

I honestly have never heard of this “bubba” guy in my life. With that said, the only thing I can comment on is that his title should be changed to “Blubber’s Career Plunge!”

As a fan of both Stern and more recently Bubba I’m really disappointed in Bubba. He’s an idiot to be burning the bridge with Sirius. While his diehards might find him where ever he goes, he’s losing the Stern run-off like me; which I would guess is more than ¾ of his audience. You can’t back stab Stern (Sirius IS Stern) and expect his fans to respond positively. Bubba’s show was entertaining, but somewhere along the line his head grew and he thought he was like Howard. The fact is that he’s nowhere near the realm of Howard. Not even close. Good luck Bubba, I’m sorry your ride has come to an end. Start selling anything that isn’t nailed down you poor stupid piece of white trash (no disrespect).

Bubba Who? I listen to his show in my car in the morning….Ned is way the hell funnier and should have his own show. Bubba thinks that he will hurt Sirius…funny, as soon as he is done share price rises…..BuhBye Bubba…fat loser….

  8. Mike Freear

I have cancelled my Sirius, because of this issue.

  9. Rich

I’ve been listening to Bubba for over 2 years on terrestrial and now over a year on Sirius. All i can say is, Bubba you fucked up big time! The only reason I got Sirius was because both you and Howard were available uncensored. I’m not sure why Sirius didn’t resign you but to back stab Howard after all he did for you shows how low class you really are. I will not be canceling my Sirius subscription, in fact I will be extending now that Howard will be on for 5 more years. It a shame you had to turn out to be suck a dick because I really did like your show. BTW the only real talent on your show is Manson. Getting away with acting like an old man (Ned) on your show for so long was great. Oh well I wont be listening to you anymore. I’m sure Howard will have some better talent available soon.

Are some of you guys idiots? It’s all about dollars and “sense”. Look at both sides: Sirius is trying to save money. They signed Howard back because they knew they were in deep shit if they didn’t. They didn’t have to sign Bubba because they know that 99% of us that listen to Bubba, listen to Howard. In addition, we use our Sirius for the music, among other programs. So, since we pay more to listen to Howard’s stations per month/year, they will not lose any money not signing Bubba again. It’s just how business works. Now, from Bubba’s side, he’s looked at the numbers of who the listeners of Sirius are listening to. Howard is number one. Bubba was number two. Somebody tell me where Oprah, Martha Stewart and Eminem’s stations were rated on number of listeners. Bubba’s point is that Sirius is paying these people a boat load of money for “name” recognition to bring people to Sirius. However, when you look at the numbers, they aren’t bringing the listeners that Bubba has vs what Sirius is paying those people. That’s all Bubba is saying. Now, people say that Bubba is trying to back stab Howard. Are you dumb? Howard has his contract … 5 more years, which is great. Everybody is stuck in a bad position. Bubba is just trying to show Sirius that he has more listeners than what they think. Remember, they can always go back to the negotiating table with each other. I’m sure Howard knew that Bubba was going to tell listeners to drop Sirius. AND, I’m sure, if Howard were in the same boat as Bubba and didn’t sign again, he would be asking all of us to leave Sirius and go to where he was. The only issue Bubba has is his leverage. If we paid, for example, $6.00 more per month to listen to Howard and $4.00 more per month to listen to Bubba, I’m sure Sirius would have thought a little more and negotiated with Bubba. For you “stupids” out there, I’m explaining that Sirius could have potentially lost $4.00 per listener. I would call Sirius and tell them to take off $4.00 per month, but I can’t, can I? AND, none of you can either. But, for those Bubba listeners out there, I’m sure you would, if you could. I’m glad to have Howard back for another 5 years. BUT, Howard 101 will not be the same without Bubba. Jay Thomas isn’t the answer, that’s for sure. AND, the guy (keep forgetting his name … skateboarder … he’s been on Howard before … friends with PINK) that thinks he’s better than Bubba and Howard isn’t the answer. Howard reruns all day isn’t the answer. Maybe there’s some upcoming star that Howard knows about. But, to make his channels more interesting, he has to do something, because 5 years from now, when Howard says “bye”, Sirius better have some ducks in a row. I’ve been listening to Bubba on radioio.com. If you’re a fan, you’ll check it out.

Look im tired of stern and his snobby sidekicks, i am so tired of hearing about the racecars, the yachts, the houses in the hamptons. tell me , how does that relate to us? the AVERAGE listner. i am so tired of hearing about the horrible work schedule that has them working a rough 6-10 am schedule. one thing i can say, is that atleast i can relate to bubba. he is probably a smug prick in real life, but i think he comes off as a real human being. i might not be smart, but my subscription is up in 2/11 and if bubba is not in the package . i will cancell. thanks for your time, mike

    You wrote in part:
Bubba is now asking Howard Stern listeners to cancel their Sirius/XM Satellite Radio subscriptions. You are not right on this………. Bubba is talking about the Bubba listeners to cancel their Sirius XM Satellite Radio subscriptions that wanted but now cant get Bubba on Sirius/XM. You want to make it about something against Howard Stern.
LOOK… Howard Stern made his deal for 80 million a year X 5 years = 400 million. He could not give a F@ck how many people cancel now. I feel Stern is done after this next 5 years . He worked 4 days a week 6:00am to 11:00am = 5 hrs. X 4 days = 20hrs a week………. Now he is going to work 3 days a week 6:00am to 10:00am live show = 4 hrs X 3 = 12 hrs a week. Keep this in mind 20hrs – 12hrs = 8hrs LESS a week of Live Stern Show. You will be getting 40% Less Live Stern Show a week. He should be getting a 40% cut in pay. So if you take 100 million a per year – 40% Less hrs working = 60 mllion a year NOT 80 Million a years that he will get. … Stay with me on this for all you math people. So 60 million that he should get X 5 years = 300 million “NOT” 400 million that is will be getting. This is 100 million more over the 5 years I feel he should get. The stock holder cant be happy with that. As I said Stern should get for 40% less work of His Live Show. So if you look at what Stern is making PER HOUR will be “MORE” now for the time he works per hour on his first contract. How can I sign up for that.

Bubba wanted to be paid the same money for his 2011 show that he was paid in 2010. Bubba was not asking for more money. But Sirius/XM wants 100% of what Bubba gave Sirius/XM in 2010 of 80% LESS MONEY. So would you work for 20 cents on the dollar? F@ck No ….So why should he. BUBBA ARMY GO RadioIO
