Sirius XM Radio (NASDAQ:SIRI) will launch On-Demand listening capabilities with the coming release of new Satellite Radio 2.0 hardware.
When consumer electronics retailer Best Buy (NYSE:BBY) listed the new SiriusXM Lynx Satellite Radio 2.0 portable on its online store for a short period of time last week, some of the retail radio’s features were listed, such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and the ability to time shift live content, but apparently the radio’s most compelling feature was left off of the list — On-Demand Listening! The Lynx radio listing was subsequently removed from Best Buy’s website shortly after it appeared.
The SiriusXM Lynx SXi1 Portable Satellite Radio Receiver is now listed on online retailer My Radio Store’s website at a price point of $249.99 (The same price point previously listed by Best Buy). While it is listed as being “Out of Stock”, the website does indicate that the radio will be “released soon.” This time My Radio Store provides a more extensive listing of the radio’s features, which includes “On-Demand Listening”:
New to SiriusXM with the SiriusXM Lynx: On-Demand Listening! Enjoy your favorite SiriusXM music, talk, and sports with the all-new SiriusXM Lynx SXi1 Portable Satellite Radio Receiver. Listen live, record your favorite shows for later listening, or access on-demand episodes of your favorite SiriusXM shows. Plus, enjoy access to new SiriusXM channels available only to SiriusXM 2.0 devices (additional monthly service fees apply).
Other SiriusXM Lynx Satellite Radio features include:
Features:
- Love button for recording your favorite songs to listen to them whenever you want.
- My SiriusXM Channel builds a playlist from your Loved songs and artists.
- My Radio Replays automatically records your favorite music to a library.
- Start Now option allows you to listen to your favorite programming on your schedule.
- Show Finder provides a complete list of programming and where it can be found.
- Xtra channels provide additional entertainment options, including Hispanic programming. Additional monthly subscription fees apply.
- Multitouch display for easy control over your listening experience. View album art and read artist bios.
- Wi-Fi connection to SiriusXM Internet Radio for hours of entertainment. Receives live satellite radio when connected to a SiriusXM LV1 vehicle kit, LH1 home kit or BB2 portable speaker dock. LV1, LH1, and BB2 are optional accessories that require separate purchase.
- Pause, rewind and play live content for customized use.
- microSDHC card slot for transferring media. microSD card not included.
- Up to 30 hours of operation on a single battery charge.
Includes:
- SiriusXM Lynx Portable Satellite Radio Receiver
- Rechargeable battery
- Travel charger and cable
- Carry pouch, screen cleaning cloth
- Owner’s manual
With the Sirius XM Lynx being an Android-based Internet connected device, it seems only logical that Sirius XM will roll out this On-Demand radio listening functionality to its Internet radio platform and its smartphone apps as well.
Sirius XM Radio’s new Satellite Radio 2.0 “XTRA Channels” are now available via Sirius XM’s Internet Radio Platform, as well as via the new SiriusXM Edge retail radio, the first (and as of now only) Satellite Radio capable of accessing Sirius XM’s new channel offerings.
