Sirius XM Radio (NASDAQ:SIRI ) announced today that their “Little Steven” Van Zandt’s Underground Garage and Outlaw Country channels will feature an extensive interview between founding member of The Band, Robbie Robertson, and E Street Band member “Little Steven” Van Zandt.
Robbie has had an amazing influence as a seminal Garage Rock guitar player with The Hawks and Bob Dylan, and as a songwriter with The Band. The Band pretty much invented and certainly popularized the entire Americana genre, changing rock music forever, influencing literally everybody. That kind of music needed a home and it’s why I created Outlaw Country at SiriusXM, which includes three groups of artists; Country legends, Alternative Country artists, and Rock artists with a country influence. The archetype of this last genre was The Band, who, after changing music history, somehow found themselves in the twenty first century without a format. That is the great thing about SiriusXM. It provides the greatest music in history a permanent home.

This week-long special series will also feature a special broadcast of the complete soundtrack to The Last Waltz, the historic farewell concert The Band held on Thanksgiving Day 35 years ago this Thanksgiving. The legendary event featured special guests Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Muddy Waters, Van Morrison, and Neil Diamond.
‘Robbie Robertson Week’ will launch on Thursday, November 24th at 4:00 pm ET, with the first segment of the in-depth interview between Robertson and Van Zandt, on Little Steven’s Underground Garage (Sirius and XM channel 21). Additional interview segments will air throughout the week on Underground Garage, as well as on SiriusXM’s Outlaw Country (Sirius and XM channel 60).
Little Steven’s Underground Garage is the channel created and produced by E Street Band member “Little Steven” Van Zandt. SiriusXM’s Underground Garage plays the best rock and roll music ever made — new and old. Listeners will hear all sixty years of Rock ‘n’ Roll — from the early Rolling Stones, the Ramones, and the Byrds, to the White Stripes.
Outlaw Country, created and executive produced by E Street Band member “Little Steven” Van Zandt, is home to the freaks, misfits, outcasts, rebels and renegades of country music. Outlaw Country features shows hosted by Steve Earle, Mojo Nixon, “Cowboy” Jack Clement, Hillbilly Jim and Elizabeth Cook, Johnny Knoxville and Roger Alan Wade, and Shooter Jennings.
