On the heels of news that Sirius XM Radio’s (NASDAQ:SIRI) Howard Stern will be replacing Piers Morgan and joining Sharon Osbourne and Howie Mandel as a judge on the popular NBC show America’s Got Talent, Sirius XM announced today that it will broadcast a special five-part original series hosted by Howard Stern called SNL on STERN. This uncensored series will offer the backstage history of NBC’s Saturday Night Live as told by the show’s cast, guest hosts and writers who have made appearances on The Howard Stern Show over the last three decades.
A huge fan of the show, Stern’s many in-depth and always entertaining interviews with Saturday Night Live’s cast, writers and guest hosts over the years has provided some of the most entertaining radio in his show’s history, going all the way back to his first interview with Gilda Radner in 1983.
SNL on STERN will feature many interviews with former and current SNL stars, including Jim Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Chevy Chase, Tina Fey, Jimmy Fallon, Jim Breuer, Chris Rock, Dana Carvey, David Spade, Billy Crystal, Robert Downey Jr., Julia Louis Dreyfus, Will Ferrell, Al Franken, Gilbert Gottfried, Darrell Hammond, Phil Hartman, Victoria Jackson, Chris Kattan, Fred Armisen, Colin Quinn, Jon Lovitz, Ben Stiller, Norm MacDonald and SNL’s creator and executive producer, Lorne Michaels.
SNL on STERN includes highlights such as:
- Chevy Chase opening up about his backstage brawl with Bill Murray
- Classic Howard Stern Show interviews with the late Phil Hartman
- Gilda Radner’s disastrous 1983 interview with Stern
- Darrell Hammond sharing his experience meeting former President Bill Clinton
- Norm MacDonald’s recollection of his bizarre firing from “Weekend Update”
- Jim Breuer giving the behind-the-scenes scoop on Joe Pesci and Robert DeNiro ’s famous SNL cameos
- SNL Audition horror stories told by Jimmy Fallon, Gilbert Gottfried and Kevin Nealon
- Ben Stiller, Sarah Silverman and Robert Downey Jr . discussing their short stints as SNL cast members
- Howard’s commentary on infamous moments in the show’s history, including Ashlee Simpson’s lip synching
Sirius XM will air SNL on STERN this Monday, December 19th through Friday, December 23rd (6:00 am ET on Howard 100 and 6:00 am PT on Howard 101). SNL on STERN will originally air in five installments, but Sirius XM will also air encore performances throughout each weekday and over the weekend on the Howard 100 channel.
