Sirius XM Radio (NASDAQ:SIRI) announced today that Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning television and film screenwriter, producer and director Ryan Murphywill be profiled and honored as the featured subject of the next installment of Iconography, an exclusive Sirius XM series which profiles iconic and influential members and a allies of the LBGT community on SiriusXM’s OutQ channel (Sirius and XM channel 108). Murphy is responsible for creating of the successful television programs American Horror Story and Glee.

In an exclusive Iconography interview, Murphy provides a deep and personal look into his experience growing up gay in the early 1980s in an Irish Catholic family living in Indiana and how he handles his success and disappointment today. He also talks openly about his early days working on the Glee television project: The executives at [Fox] all loved it, except one who wanted it to crash and burn,” Murphy reveals, adding that when the show reached the end of filming its initial network order of 13 episodes, “…the cast and crew were literally in tears. We thought that was it. We’ll never work together again. Ultimately, I remember it being an exciting and powerful time, because the thing that nobody ever thought would work, worked.

Murphy also shares the humorous details of how his longtime partner, David Miller, proposed marriage: “We went to Central Park for a walk on my birthday,” Murphy recalls. “Suddenly, there he was on one knee, with the bench and the ring. It was very emotional. Later, we found out that some of the hardcore sex scenes in the movie Cruising were shot in that area. It was hilarious. But it was also very sweet and romantic.”

During the month of January, Ryan Murphy will be crowned the honorary voice of Sirius XM Radio’s OutQ, and the channel will air up close and personal profiles of Murphy daily. Iconography: Ryan Murphy culminates with an exclusive, in-depth interview with Murphy conducted by SiriusXM’s OutQ channel host Frank DeCaropremiering on January 21st at 10:00 AM ET. Replays of the interview will air on January 21st at 4:00 PM ET, January 22nd at 12:00 and 7:00 PM ET, January 28th at 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM ET and January 29th at 12:00 and 7:00 PM ET. In addition, an exclusive “director’s cut,” which will feature Q&A with Sirius XM Radio listeners and Murphy, will air throughout the month on The Frank DeCaro Show, which airs on OutQ weekdays from 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM ET.
