Sirius XM Radio Inc. (NASDAQ:SIRI) announced today that it will air a special tribute to celebrate the life and music of Jenni Rivera.
The 24-hour tribute airs Saturday, December 22nd, 2012 at 12:01 am ET through 11:59 pm ET on SiriusXM Águila (SiriusXM Radio channel 510) and will honor the life and award-winning musical career of Jenni Rivera, ‘La Diva de la Banda,’ the most well-known female singer of the banda genre, who passed away on December 9th, 2012.
This special tribute will also feature musicians of the Regional Mexican genre, such as Vizzio and Devoción Norteña, among others, sharing their personal memories, anecdotes, condolences and more.
In addition, “Mexico Lindo” will dedicate the broadcast of its weekly 4-hour show to Rivera’s music on Sunday, December 23rd, 2012 on SiriusXM Caliente (SiriusXM Radio channel 150) beginning at 9:00 pm PST.
Born in Los Angeles, Jenni Rivera sold more than 15 million copies of her albums which often spoke of heartbreak and strength in the face of hardship. Rivera, who was killed in a plane crash in Mexico, was also known for the honesty with which she spoke about the difficulties in her personal life.
SiriusXM’s Águila channel plays Norteña, Ranchera, Duranguense and the sounds of traditional Mexican music, featuring artists such as Larry Hernández, Ana Gabriel, Los Tigres Del Norte, La Adictiva Banda San José, and Vicente Fernández.
Caliente plays a tropical mix of salsa, merengue and bachata hits, featuring Marc Anthony, Juan Luis Guerra, Daddy Yankee, Romeo Santos, Prince Royce, and many others.
