Sirius XM Radio Inc. (NASDAQ:SIRI) announced today that three-time All-American and Hall of Fame Michigan State guard Mateen Cleaves and three-time ACC Coach of the Year Bobby Cremins have joined Sirius XM Radio’s college basketball coverage for this season.
Mateen Cleaves and Bobby Cremins will join the roster of expert hosts featured on SiriusXM’s daily show, Inside College Basketball, which will make its season premier on Friday, January 11th, and air every weekday from 12:00 – 3:00 pm ET throughout the season on SiriusXM College Sports Nation (Sirius Radio and XM Radio channel 91).
Additional hosts returning to the show this season include former University of Tennessee coach Bruce Pearl, former Villanova University and University of Massachusetts coach Steve Lappas, former University of Vermont coach Tom Brennan, college basketball insider Jeff Goodman and broadcaster Jason Horowitz.
One of the most exceptional players ever to come out of Michigan State, Mateen Cleaves is the university’s only three-time All-American and was a two-time Big Ten Player of the Year for the Spartans. A three-year MSU captain, he led his team to a NCAA Championship title in 2000 and was named the Most Outstanding Player of that year’s Final Four. The NCAA recently named Cleaves one of its top 75 All-Time March Madness players. Michigan State has retired his #12 jersey and inducted him into its Athletics Hall of Fame in 2011. A native of Flint, Michigan, Cleaves is an active supporter of the Boys and Girls Clubs in his hometown and will be officially inducted into the state of Michigan’s Sports Hall of Fame in February.
Bobby Cremins is the winningest coach in Georgia Tech history. Over his 19 seasons at the school he coached the Yellow Jackets to 354 victories and 10 NCAA Tournament berths, including nine consecutive appearances from 1985-93. His teams advanced to the round of 16 twice, the Elite Eight in 1985, and played their way into the Final Four in 1990, the same year Cremins was named the Naismith College Coach of the Year. Under his guidance Georgia Tech also won three ACC Tournament Championships (1985, 1990, 1993) and two ACC Regular Season Championships (1985, 1996) and Cremins was honored by the ACC as its Coach of the Year three times. Cremins started his coaching career at Appalachian State, who he led to three Southern Conference Regular Season Championships (1978, 1980, 1981) and an NCAA tournament berth in 1979, before he moved on to Georgia Tech. After six seasons in retirement following his successful career with the Ramblin’ Wreck, Cremins returned to the court to coach the College of Charleston and piloted the team to four 20-plus wins over six seasons before retiring again in 2012.
