Sirius XM Radio (NASDAQ: SIRI) will be broadcasting live coverage of the 2010 Ryder Cup golf matches from The Celtic Manor Resort in Wales. Live coverage of the popular golf event will run from Friday, October 1st through Sunday, October 3rd, with a Sirius XM Ryder Cup Preview Show, hosted by Sirius XM’s Matt Adams and Earl Forcey, airing on Wednesday, September 29th.
The Ryder Cup is a biennial (every two years) golf competition between teams, comprised of the best 12 players representing the United States and Europe. This year, the U.S, team will be led by captain Corey Pavin and the European team will be led by captain Colin Montgomerie. The teams will compete in foursomes and four-ball matches on Friday and Saturday, with 12 head-to-head individual matches following on Sunday.
The celebrated competition is administered by both the PGA of America and the PGA European Tour. The event’s venue alternates between courses in the United States and Europe, although all tournaments have been held in either the U.S. or the U.K. — except for Ireland in 2006 and Spain in 1997. The first Ryder Cup competition took place in 1927, following an exhibition match in 1926.
The 2008 U.S. victory over the Europeans at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, KY was the first U.S. Ryder Cup victory in nine years. Representing Team USA at Ryder Cup 2010 will be Tiger Woods, Zach Johnson, Hunter Mahan, Bubba Watson, Jim Furyk, Steve Stricker, Dustin Johnson, Jeff Overton, Matt Kuchar, Stewart Cink, Rickie Fowler, and Masters Champion Phil Mickelson. Team Europe will feature Miguel Angel Jimenez, Rory McIlroy, Edoardo Molinari, Francesco Molinari, Ian Poulter, Lee Westwood, Luke Donald, Ross Fisher, Peter Hanson, Padraig Harrington, as well as PGA Champion Martin Kaymer and U.S. Open Champion Graeme McDowell.
